This month’s theme was ‘Tick Tock, Tick Tock’, selected for Autumn’s prompt arrival and the clocks about to go back. No Cyndi or Gwen to be heard, it was also the first time we went counter clockwise for round 2, as inspired by the theme.
Kicking things off, Sarah got us thinking about the rescued Chilean miners with Coal Miner by Nappy Brown, who clearly ‘had some time to think’.
Although we often yellow card people for playing songs made by a loved one or someone they work with, Zena played a great track produced by her fella, Arthur Chance, because she ‘hears it all the time’.
Dan played the only Smashing Pumpkins song I like (sorry) as an ode to the time before you fall asleep and dream, title track to the concept album “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness”.
Paul P & Olly took us away with Aphex Twin, Jefferson Airplane and Pink Floyd, it was such a treat to remember what a being a ‘classic’ really means, and how time can get lost under the influence (of music or otherwise)…. Paul S. immediately broke the nostalgia by playing us the Easy All Stars cover of ‘Time’.
The changing time signatures of (Theme from) “Valley Of the Dolls’ inspired me to buy composer Andre Previn’s fabulous memoirs from his Hollywood film scoring days (and five marriages) for some beach reading in Malta this weekend…
It was also the first time we’ve received a cd after the event sent to us, with 17 alternative tracks based on the theme! We will accept presents like this anytime, Milo…. and in turn give you 2 awards:
Best use of raccoon award: JJ Cale’s original ‘After Midnight’, you can clearly see why here.
Best quote of the night: ”it’s an organic mung bean amongst the falafel”
Until next time…
